WELCOME BACK CHRIS HOLMES – JUMPER SPOTLIGHT: SEASON 2.2

Jump Rope Jam is proud to welcome back Chris Holmes to the show!

For those of you who don’t know Chris Holmes, you might know him best as the owner of JumpRopeVideos.com.

However, there is a lot more to Chris than his website Jump Rope Videos. Chris has over 30 years of involvement with the sport of jump rope, he has performed and taught in 11 countries, won several national championships, and one world championship.

Chris started jumping in 1985 with the Footnotes of San Antonio, coached by Roger Crozier. Chris jumped for 10 years with the Footnotes before attending college at Texas A&M University to study computer engineering. While at Texas A&M, Chris started the first college jump rope team. During that time Chris also served as an early board member of USA Jump Rope. In 2007 Chris started jumpropevideos.com as a way to share his love of jump rope with the world. He is currently volunteering by supporting World Jump Rope and coaching his kid’s team, the Rope Warriors. It is Chris’ mission to help the sport grow and inspire a new generation of jumpers that will help carry it forward.

Chris Holmes of JumpRopeVideos.com fame was our guest for this episode of Jumper Spotlight. In this episode Chris shares his love of the 90’s, Eilea discusses her experience at the very first University Jump Rope Summit at Ohio State, oh and Chris announces the new United States based organization AMJRF – American Jump Rope Federation!

Shortly after recording our video with Chris, AMJRF, the American Jump Rope Federation, announced themselves on social media to the jump rope community. For those of you who have not seen it, here is the organizations first post:

The American Jump Rope Federation wants to take jump rope to new heights. Like you, we love this sport and have dedicated much of our lives to it. Now we want to share that love with you and work together to launch an exciting new era of jump rope in America.

There are 3 core themes that need our attention:

– Development: Innovate and share the best practices of jump rope.
– Growth: Get more people jumping all across America.
– Competition: Support competition at all levels of our sport.

To do this we will need your help.

Yes, it’s true!

The Tricktionary is now available for everyone (with a device connected to the Internet), go check it out at the-tricktionary.com

For iOS users

By pressing the share button in safari followed by “add to Homescreen” you can add the tricktionary to your homescreen where it’ll work just as any other app on your phone

For Android users

We still recommend the app for you, it can be found here, but if you’d prefer you can press the ⋮ in the top right corner of chrome, followed by “add to Homescreen” a shortcut will be added to your homescreen, and it’ll work like any other app on your phone (and you won’t notice it’s a webpage)

And this is just the beginning, we do already have new and exciting features hatching.

Oh and if you feel something is missing? You can submit a trick to the tricktionary, just check in the site’s menu.

I’d like to thank Dylan Plummer for letting me dig into this project, and to Cory for lending us a domain until we got our own at the-tricktionary.com, our new home.

Dr. Sarah Dobrolwski is a pioneer in her application of sports medicine to our sport. While most of us may recognize her voice as an official announcer with the World Jump Rope Federation, not as many of us have heard her story and perspective on the sport.

With an Honours Bachelor Degree of Science, a Masters of Kinesiology, a Medical degree, and a long standing background jumping competitively, Sarah continues to develop new training methods and test theories with the concern of our athletes at heart. Her recent work and research in ‘Maximizing Performance and Minimizing Injury’ has insightfully highlighted the correlation between stress and resilience as they pertain to physical injury, and includes training schedules, assessment forms, and prevention techniques.
