Here on Jumper Spotlight we highlight someone who is, or has been, important to our sport and community. The people we highlight can be athletes, judges, announcers, coaches, or just someone who’s passion for the sport has impacted you, your team, our community, or our sport in an important way.
If you would like to be spotlighted, or have someone else you think should be spotlighted feel free to e-mail us at [email protected]
Today’s Jumper Spotlight is, Maddy DeAngelo, known also as @maddydeangelo on Instagram.
Maddy is from Boise, Idaho and has jumped with the Summerwinds Skippers for 10 years. She now lives in Moscow, Idaho where she is attending the University of Idaho studying microbiology. While attending her freshman year at university, Maddy is in the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Although Maddy will be attending college, she will still be competing with her team this year.
During her freshman year of high school, Maddy suffered a debilitating foot injury; Avascular Necrosis in her foot. Avascular Necrosis is a condition that occurs when there is loss of blood to the bone. Because bone is living tissue that requires blood, an interruption to the blood supply causes bone to die. If not stopped, this process eventually causes the bone to collapse. Any competitive jumper knows how hard an injury can be, questions about your ability to continue participating in the sport that you love. With an injury this severe those questions were more apparent. Luckily Maddy recovered and has since been able to continue jumping.
If you would like to learn more about Maddy DeAngelo you can listen to her this Monday on the Jump Rope Jam Podcast, or all of her social media.
